Marcel Popescu brings Paunovic to Craiova

February 4, 2010 Leave a comment
  • Universitatea Craiova signed Ivan Paunovic (23), from Srem. The Serbian midfielder agreed to a short contract, until the end of the season, but with an option to extend it for four more years. Interesting enough, the player brought in Romania by FIFA agent Marcel Popescu had been training for the past couple of weeks with Astra Ploiesti, but failed to agree terms when it came to put pen to paper.
  • Although his move to Ceahlaul Piatra Neamt was officially announced, Vasile Buhaescu (22) switched sides today and went on loan to a second division club, Concordia Chiajna. The striker, a former U21 player for Romania, belongs to FC Vaslui, but would have had no realistic chance to feature in the second half of season, given the tough competition for a place in the team and the club’s ambition to try and mount a serious title challenge.
  • Dinamo and Astra Ploiesti, teams that were sharing the rights of two players, Georgian Paun (24, forward) and Eugen Craciun (23, full back), found an agreement that makes Paun a Dinamo player and transfers Craciun to Astra. If Craciun will continue to play for Astra, where he was on loan for the past two years anyway, Paun was re-directed to Politehnica Iasi, on loan until the end of the season, after a week or spent in Dinamo’s training camp from Turkey.

Pulhac misses out, Sapunaru returns home

  • Cristian Pulhac (25) moves to Spain, after Dinamo agreed terms with Real Valladolid, in a rather surprising deal, for the following reasons: the secret was extremely well guarded and nothing appeared in the press until now, Pulhac returned this season after a long lay-off and rarely played above average, and the Spanish club should pay 700.000 EUR, although the player had “transfer pass” for 500.000 EUR. I was right to doubt this one! In fact, Pulhac returned this evening to Dinamo’s training camp, as the Spaniards completed another deal in the meantime – the loan of Asier del Horno.
  • Cristian Sapunaru (25) agreed to return on loan to Rapid Bucharest, the club that had sold him to FC Porto, although he was also requested in Greece, by Iraklis Thesalloniki. Sapunaru was facing a long spell on the sidelines and will play for Rapid until the summer.
  • Mihai Onicas (20), one of the players Steaua tried to promote this season, will move to Politehnica Iasi until the summer. The U21 Romanian international had a promising start of season, playing both in the league and in Europe, but faded away and should face a tougher competition for the anchorman position, after Ovidiu Petre’s return from injury.

Gauracs, hoping to land a four years long deal with Rapid

  • Edgars Gauracs (21) has finally signed a contract with Rapid Bucharest and he joins the club on loan from Ventspils until the end of the season. “The Gauracs deal” had been announced for more than two weeks now and even Rapid’s officials began to have some doubts regarding his arrival in time for the club’s training camp from Turkey. The club’s owner, George Copos, confidently announced now that Gauracs has a bright future ahead of him at his new club, where he’ll stay for 4 more years if Rapid will activate its option for a permanent deal in the summer.
  • Assisted by their brother & agent Arthur Karamyan, Artavazd and Arman, the Karamyan twins recently released by FC Timisoara reached an agreement with Steaua Bucharest. They will get 100.000 EUR upfront and another 100.000 EUR in the summer, in case Steaua wins the league, a trick that should save appearances, as the Armenians’ wages won’t go over the 120.000 EUR salary cap imposed by Becali at the Bucharest side.

Done deals (VI)

Rapid completed the loan deal that will bring Ilie Iordache (24) back in Romania, at least until the end of the season. Iordache has a contract with AEK Athens that will only expire in 2012, but the player seems to have realized that he has slim chances to play in Greece and spoke about the possibility of a permanent deal.

Although he comes from a solid club, Iordache might not prove the best immediate solution for covering the left winger position at Rapid, as he definitely needs some time to regain match fitness. His performances were good before his transfer to Greece, but the fact is that he has scored only 11 goals in 71 appearances for Pandurii Targu Jiu, as THE star player of the team.

The Romanian press also announced that Rapid has completed another loan deal on this occasion and next week is expected in Romania Tamandani Nsaliwa (28). The Malawi born midfielder comes from AEK Athens as well and should stay until the summer, when the Bucharest side will have the chance to sign him on a longer deal, as he will terminate his contract with the Greek giants.

  • The Karamyan twins, recently released by FC Timisoara, after failed negotiations to extend deal that were running out in the summer, are reportedly close to a move to a return to Bucharest. Steaua is offering them a deal until the summer, with bonuses in case of success in the league, as Gigi Becali decided not to pay more than 120.000 EUR per season and otherwise there wasn’t any room for a discussion with Arman and Artavazd, who were paid better than this in Timisoara.
  • Dinamo has finally got the nod from Inter Milano for a loan deal involving Cristian Daminuta (19). The player has been training with the Bucharest club for the last couple of weeks and should stay with the Red Dogs until the summer. Dinamo will have the option to make the deal permanent, in exchange of half of million EUR.
  • After the Ouon duel, Steaua and FC Vaslui are preparing for another battle. Their target is another defender, who previously played on loan for Rapid Bucharest and left a solid impression in Romania. Joao Paulo Andrade is Portuguese, 28 years old, currently plays for Le Mans and can cover three roles: central defender, right back and defensive midfielder.
  • After Gabriel Tamas moved to England and already played a few games for West Bromwich Albion in the Championship, it seems that there’s an “advertising campaign” going on, involving another Dinamo player. Gabriel Torje is a 20 years old right winger, regular in the U21, and very experienced already, with almost 100 matches played in the first division for FC Timisoara and Dinamo, plus a few matches in Europe. The price though might be too high, as Dinamo paid a massive fee in 2008, around 2 mil. EUR for only 50% of his federative rights…

  • Kasali Yinka Casal (22) needs to impress Andrea Mandorlini in these next few days, if he wants to become a CFR Cluj player. Although he has already signed a contract, it wasn’t registered yet, and the Nigerian’s performances in the first training camp have been rather poor so far. The same goes for centre-back Patrick Kanyuka, who apparently has even less chances than the left back, according to club president Iuliu Muresan.
  • Rapid Bucharest announces the imminent return of Ilie Iordache (24) to Romania. The forward belongs to AEK Athens, who took him on an almost free transfer (there was a huge scandal at the time that involved Pandurii Targu Jiu and Dinamo), but rarely used him (only three matches this season, all as a substitute). The player is expected to join Rapid for the second training camp, in Turkey, and should replace Brazilian left winger Carlos César dos Santos Cesinha (29), who’s in the last six months of the current contract and also rarely featured in the first half of season.
  • Rapid’s attacking left back Vladimir Bozovic (28) was yet again the star of an unprofessional behavior episode, which took place in the club’s training camp. The Montenegro defender took along Slovenian midfielder Darijan Matic (26) and both had a couple of beers in a bar next to the stadium they both had left at half time, after being replaced by the coach.
