Timisoara’s case postponed until the 20th of June. UEFA asked to intervene

Thousands of Viola fans took the streets and the Romanian Football Federation refused to take the final decision yesterday. Mircea  Sandu – the president – stated that he asked UEFA’s licencing committee to intervene (which means that the information that UEFA was the one to deny the club’s access in the Champions League!) and check the documents as well as the Romanian’s calls that affect especiall FC Timisoara. A new meeting and a second attempt to either go through with it or take a step back and allow both Timisoara and Bistrita to keep their Liga I status has been scheduled on the 20th of June.

Interesting quotes:

Mircea Sandu (president of the Romanian Federation):

  • It’s a shame that Gloria Bistrita goes down for a debt of around 100.000 Euros!
  • You can’t make a dead man return from the grave (Romanian saying adjusted to Timisoara’s chances to escape this).
  • There is no way Timisoara can get the licence to play Liga I football next season.
  • UEFA has been asked to check the documents of the six clubs that initially qualified for Europe, plus those of 7th placed Gaz Metan Medias, who should play in the Europa League, after Timisoara’s exclusion.

Dumitru Dragomir (president of the Professional Football League):

  • What’s absolutely certain is that Timisoara won’t be allowed to play in the Champions League.

Viorel Duru (chief of the licencing committee):

  • UEFA’s investigation cannot change our decisions. If we were wrong, then the Federation will get a fine of around 70.000 Euros.
  • Timisoara’s chances to turn this around are zero.

Marian Iancu (FC Timisoara’s boss):

  • Timisoara’s not relegated, you’re in for a big surprise!
  • Everybody said it’s Sandu’s hand, but I refuse to believe it. I have asked for his help.

Ribeiro Moraes Junior to Metalurg Donetsk!

February 11, 2011 1 comment

Gloria Bistrita’s president admitted that today the two clubs agreed terms and, with the player’s father at the same table – the discussion took place just outside the pitch that hosted today one of Gloria’s friendly matches! – we can say it’s a done deal already. Metalurg will pay 1.2 million Euros, taxes included, and makes this the best ever deal done by the Romanian club, considering that, a year ago, Gloria was paying 20.000 Euros to secure the player’s services! In the meantime, the Brazilian striker produced excellent numbers, with 18 goals scored in 32 appearances, in the two halves of seasons spent in the white and blue outfit, playing for a rather mediocre team.

Ribeiro Moraes Junior needed just one year to prove that he's too good for this league!

A complete forward, Ribeiro Moraes Junior has a nice combination of skills, being able to score with both feet, with his head, through well-placed free-kicks. He can link-up play upfront, play as a second striker or even alone upfront. Bistrita’s number 10 looked destined for a move to Steaua this winter, especially after he signed a contract with Ioan Becali, but the Bucharest side never met Gloria’s asking price, trying to bargain and losing, in the end, a very, very good player, at least by this league’s standard.

It’s an excellent deal for Metalurg, as well, nevermind the paid fee, it should generate good results on the pitch and even some profit, after one or two seasons, and it speaks about the club’s progress, considering that the last forward bought from Romania was the never outstanding Ciprian Tanasa, signed in March 2009, who has a record of 13 goals in 45 matches and turned 30 this year…

CFR wins the race for Hora’s signature

Ioan Hora - photo by bistrita24.ro

Wanted by pretty much all the big clubs from Liga I, Ioan Hora was presented today by CFR Cluj, as the latest addition of the Romanian champions. The winger – who can play on both flanks, as well as a second forward – had a very good season for Gloria Bistrita and was requested by Andone to Dinamo, with Rapid also hoping to get his signature, especially with his former coach, Marius Sumudica, ready to join the club this summer.

The 21 years old had been signed by Gloria Bistrita from UTA, after a promising first season in Liga I when he was only 18, and makes another important step in his career at an excellent age and a very good moment, having enough experience in the top flight (88 appearances and 8 goals) and looking prepared to take his game to another level.

Hora signed a five years long deal and CFR Cluj paid around 350.000 600.000 Euros for his services. Knowing Jean Padureanu’s experience, I predict that a couple of players from CFR will go on loan to Gloria next season, as part of the same deal ;-).

Ribeiro Moraes is, officially, Gloria Bistrita’s player. But not for long!

Brought on a loan from Santos, with the option to make the deal permanent for 200.000 Euros, Aluisio Chaves Ribeiro Junior Moraes is probably the best deal in Gloria Bistrita’s history! The Brazilian forward, who came to Romania through Marius Sumudica’s still active contacts from Portugal, was on fire and impressed with every single appearance in Liga I. In 17 matches, he scored 9 goals, an impressive and decisive feat for Gloria’s survival in the league, which attracted interest from every single big club from Romania.

Obviously, Gloria moved quickly and paid the 200.000 Euros, offering the 23 years old a contract that has a release clause of 2 million Euros. And it won’t be a surprise to see it paid in a month or so ;-).

Leonardo Veloso switches from Dinamo to CFR

  • Willem II agreed to release the Brazilian Leonardo Henrique Veloso (22), who is expected to sign tomorrow his contract with CFR Cluj. Interesting enough, the left back had been rejected by Dinamo and CFR earlier this month, after he had announced his demands – a contract of 200.000 EUR/season.
  • Gloria Bistrita counts on two former players in the club’s attempt to avoid relegation once again. The right back Dan Matei (28), former team captain, returns on loan from Unirea Urziceni, after two season affected by injuries and half of season spent at International Curtea de Arges, while central defensive midfielder Andrei Muresan (25) returns from Russia, where he played seven matches for Kuban Krasnodar. The club also signed the unknown Brazilian striker Aluisio Chaves Ribeiro Junior Moraes (22), raised by FC Santos, and the Portuguese Jose Rui Tavares da Veiga “Ze” (27), who spent the last couple of season in Bulgaria, at CSKA!

Valentin Iliev joins Universitatea Craiova

  • Universitatea Craiova signed Valentin Iliev (29), a Bulgarian central defender who comes from Terek Grozni. The experienced centre-back – 18 caps for the National Team – signed a contract until June 2011 and is Universitatea’s first important signing under Dutch manager Mark Wotte.
  • Dinu Daniel Sanmartean (28) follows his older brother, Lucian, to FC Vaslui. Released by Gloria Bistrita, the once promising left back makes a surprising move to this ambitious club, but will be only a backup solution for a team that will rely mostly on the Portuguese Hugo Duarte Luz (27) and the recently acquired Bulgarian left back Zhivko Milanov (25).

Done deals

  • CFR Cluj presented today threee new faces: former Steaua and Catania attacking midfielder Nicolae Dica (29),  Cristian Bud (24), transferred a few months ago from Gaz Metan Medias, where the striker had scored 11 times in 32 matches, and the left back Kasali Yinka Casal (22), a surprising aquisition, from Swindon Town.
  • Gaz Metan Medias found a replacement for Bud’s departure and signed a striker raised in Steaua’s youth ranks: Alin Litu. He’s 23 years old, has a rather poor scoring record in the league (4 goals in 60 matches!), where he played until now for Steaua, Pandurii Targu Jiu and Gloria Buzau.
  • FC Timisoara allowed talented full back Iasmin Latovlevici to go on loan to Gloria Bistrita until the end of the current campaign, in order to keep playing regularly. The left back has 33 matches in the first division, but played only twice this season and, with the costly aquisition of Laszlo Sepsi, there would have been no room for him in the first team.
