The striker that makes the difference

Cristian Bud

Right after its comeback in the top flight, Gaz Metan Medias produced an excellent season, impressing with the surprising offensive approach and ability to lay siege on the struggling teams and generally during the games played at home, no matter the opponent’s name and stature. It was the debut season in Liga I for a number of players and coach Cristian Pustai showed guts to give credit to several young and unexperienced footballers at this level. Among them, Cristi Bud, a centre-forward who had a good reputation in the second division and who made an instant impact, making good use of balls supplied from midfield especially by Brazilian attacking midfielder Eric de Oliveira and left winger Paul Parvulescu – definitely the most promising left sided player in Romania. Gladstone, from Sporting and Juventus to FC Vaslui

  • Gaz Metan Medias – a decent club, always careful with its imports – signed the Greek striker Vasilios Galanis (22), who has a very poor playing record in his home country and can only be proud of his past in Panathinaikos’ youth ranks. But, on the other hand, unknown and dubious looked at the beginning players like the Brazilian attacking midfielder Eric de Oliveira Pereira (24) or the Serbian defender Zarko Markovic (23), who are now closely followed by bigger Romanian clubs.
  • FC Vaslui signed another interesting name, in what is definitely the “best looking” transfer campaign a Romanian club has managed during this winter break. Brazilian defender Gladstone Pereira della Vallentina (25), who once belonged to Juventus or Sporting Lisbon, agreed to a three years long contract, as FC Vaslui decided to ignore the player’s proven inconsistency over the years.
  • FC Brasov signed Stelian Stancu (28), who was released by FC Timisoara, after failing to find a club willing to pay a 200.000 EUR transfer fee. Patient enough, but also forced to find an alternative by the conflict with Rui Duarte (the Portuguese right back refusing to return to Brasov after he has been denied a move to Steaua), the team prepared by Viorel Moldovan made a good deal, as Stancu is a very good backup solution, given his ability to play anywhere on the right, but also as a central midfielder.

Today’s press

  • Serbian defender Zarko Markovic (23), from Gaz Metan Medias, who had just resumed training after a long lay off, suffered an injury today and is facing another long spell on the sidelines. The news angered the player’s agent, Zvonko Milojkovic, who accused the coach and the medical staff to have pushed his client too hard and too soon. The towering centre-back (2,04 m), who played 30 matches for Gaz Metan, will go to Bucharest for a medical check, where he’s expected by NT doctor, Pompiliu Popescu.
  • Following media reports regarding PSV Eindhoven’s interest in Lacina Traore (19) from CFR Cluj, with the Dutch giants ready to spend 2 mil. EUR for the talented forward, Arsenal apparently won’t give up that easily on one of Wenger’s targets, but won’t make a move until the end of the season.

Done deals

  • CFR Cluj presented today threee new faces: former Steaua and Catania attacking midfielder Nicolae Dica (29),  Cristian Bud (24), transferred a few months ago from Gaz Metan Medias, where the striker had scored 11 times in 32 matches, and the left back Kasali Yinka Casal (22), a surprising aquisition, from Swindon Town.
  • Gaz Metan Medias found a replacement for Bud’s departure and signed a striker raised in Steaua’s youth ranks: Alin Litu. He’s 23 years old, has a rather poor scoring record in the league (4 goals in 60 matches!), where he played until now for Steaua, Pandurii Targu Jiu and Gloria Buzau.
  • FC Timisoara allowed talented full back Iasmin Latovlevici to go on loan to Gloria Bistrita until the end of the current campaign, in order to keep playing regularly. The left back has 33 matches in the first division, but played only twice this season and, with the costly aquisition of Laszlo Sepsi, there would have been no room for him in the first team.
