Round 21 – match highlights ;-)

March 13, 2010 1 comment

Friday games:

  • Ceahlaul – Gaz Metan Medias 0-0

Zoran Filipovic adds a second point in as many games since taking over the bottom placed in the league, but this was one of those matches that Ceahlaul needed to win in order to put some pressure on the other teams threatened by relegation. The home team failed to create chances even when Medias had to play with 10 men, after Kubala’s dismissal, in spite of Barcauan‘s debut, who was used as a centre-forward, seven years after he was reinvented as a centre-back!

  • Astra Ploiesti – Politehnica Iasi 1-1 (L. Ganea 77 / V. Negru 80)

Tight game, in which Astra played slightly better and has enough reasons to feel disappointed, as Politehnica scored on its first clear cut chance through an otherwise uninspired Negru, three minutes after Ganea found the net once again – a tap in from close range, following a flick-on from Radek Oprsal. The match confirmed that the defender Marcelo Mendez is the only player from South America brought this winter that, at this point, offers some guarantees, with Kurchovski and Diego Silva once again disappointing and all the other sitting on the bench until the final whistle…  Impressive performance from Vlad Bujor, in Poli’s team, a young forward loaned from CFR Cluj, who shows a lot of potential and definitely deserves attention in the near future.

  • Steaua – Otelul Galati 1-0 (Stancu 11)

Bogdan "Tomcat" Stancu

The hosts grabbed three important points, against the team that had won against CFR Cluj in the previous round, but Otelul was a handful for Stoichita’s men as well. The match was decided by the player that refused to take part in the U23 game against Italy, saying that he’s injured, but who looked in very good shape ;-). Stoichita handed the first start to Stelios Parpas, in central defense, and takes heart from his performance, as the Bulgarian Zhelev will be suspended for Wednesday’s derby against Dinamo, after his fourth yellow card of the season. But that wasn’t the only blow for Steaua’s defense, with Artiom Karamyan leaving the field with a serious injury and keeper Zapata showing once again signs of weakness in goal… Read more…

Bucur’s move to Kuban, finalized

  • FC Timisoara, Kuban Krasnodar and Gheorghe Bucur (29) shook hands and completed a deal that has been negotiated right after Dan Petrescu’s appointment as head coach of the Russian club. Timisoara gets 1,8 mil. EUR in exchange of one of the most prolific strikers of Liga I in recent years (89 goals in 194 matches), while the player should earn 600.000 EUR for the following three seasons.
  • Unirea Alba Iulia completed the loan of Serbian centre-forward Nemanja Jovanovic (25), from FC Vaslui. The 1,91 cm front man will stay in Alba Iulia until the summer, where he will fight for a place in the first eleven with fellow countryman Rade Veljovic (23), who’s on loan from CFR Cluj. Jovanovic is a tall and athletic centre-forward who always showed potential, but never found his place. The nomadic striker will play for the seventh club since his arrival in Romania, in 2003!
  • Cosmin Barcauan (31, central defender, from OFI) and Ciprian Vasilache (26, left midfielder, un-attached) agreed to sign for Ceahlaul Piatra Neamt contracts that will expire at the end of the season.

Today’s press

January 14, 2010 Leave a comment
  • Central defender Cosmin Barcauan is close to a return home, after three and a half seasons spent in Greece, at PAOK and OFI, where he was sent on loan from Shakhtar Donetsk. Barcauan (31) started his Liga I career as a striker for Universitatea Craiova, but was moved in central defense and then transferred to Dinamo, the club that is hoping to sign him in the next few days, after the player passed today a medical exam.
  • Named Best foreign player in Romania, Pablo Brandan (26) has won also a place in the ideal first eleven of the league, after half a season. The Argentinian left back is currently playing for reigning champions Unirea Urziceni and doesn’t hide his disappointment for missing out on a transfer to VFB Stuttgart. The German club apparently offered 1.100.000 1.400.000 EUR, but the Romanian club was expecting to land a deal in the region of 3.000.000 EUR.
  • Dacian Varga (25), currently under contract with second division club Sportul Studentesc, has several club from the first division interested in his services. After Steaua Bucharest and FC Timisoara, Rapid Bucharest lined up in the race for his signature. Each club is trying different approaches to convince Vasile Siman, the owner of Sportul, to sell the player, after the left winger impressed in the Champions League group stage this season, playing on loan at Unirea Urziceni.
  • Marius Constantin (25) finally agreed to extend his contract with Rapid, which was expiring at the end of the season and one of the most interesting targets for free transfers in the summer has become unavailable.  The defender was a target for several Russian and German clubs, but apparently Dynamo Kyiv was at one point keen to sign the strong centre-back. Constantin’s new deal will expire in June 2013 and he got a raise from 120.000 EUR to 200.000 EUR per season.
  • Colombian attacking midfielder Dayro Moreno (24) has publicly demanded to be allowed to return to Once Caldas, although the club cannot afford the 500.000 EUR transfer fee.
