Dinamo releases the Argentinian Juan Pablo Garat

December 9, 2010 Leave a comment

Garat should be happy to move as far away from Dinamo as possible. He should forget the promising start of the season. The deserved praise for some promising performances and the beginning of a solid partnership with Cosmin Moti, the centre-back who may have returned from Seria A two years ago, but failed to return to form. The scoring ability discovered only after his move to Liga I. He will keep in mind though that, if you’re willing to make a career in Romania, there are a few guys out there who control everything, even if they’re not officially involved in the game anymore. One of them is former FIFA agent Ioan Becali, who once criticized the Argentinian centre-back more for the fact that he signed with Dinamo without going through him rather than for the quality of his performances. Garat replied by asking “Giovani” to keep quiet and stop talking about him and may have laughed in disbelief when he received a text message saying that he’ll never get to play for Dinamo again.

Today, the Red Dogs announce that they have released Juan Pablo Garat, considering that he failed to adjust to Liga I due to several medical problems, after 13 matches for the club and 2 goals. Of course, the decision has nothing to do with Becali’s threat. Garat did get to play two more games for Dinamo, after that episode. 15 minutes in the 11th round and 10 more minutes in the 16th round.

Peralta is a free player. Or not

CFR left for the first training camp of the summer, leaving behind some interesting names, who aren’t part of Mandorlini’s plans for the coming season. The central midfielder Sixto Peralta tops this list, a player who gets 375.000 Euros per year and thinks that his deal will expire in June 2011. CFR’s board thinks otherwise, stating that this summer they had the option to extend the deal for one more year and refused to do it. Anyway, looking at CFR’s lack of creative players in midfield it’s possible that Mandorlini could be really happy to see the former Inter Milano player still at the club, when he returns to Romania…
On the black list and looking at least for a good destination to spend a year on loan are Rade Veljovic, Ousmane Viera, Vitinha, Dario Flores and Diego Ruiz, all good players by Liga I standards, with centre back Viera showing also some potential to develop in the near future.

Winston Parks is on the transfer list. At least until Timisoara gets a new coach

Still trying to persuade Maurizio Trombetta, Vladimir Petrovic or Viorel Moldovan to take over after Sabau’s resignation, FC Timisoara still have on the transfer list the Costa Rica international Winston Parks, who scored an outstanding goal against Switzerland in midweek. The striker, who has been underperforming most of the times last season, has a price tag of 1 million Euros, but Timisoara’s officials say that the player is expected to resume training with the club after the summer holiday, if he won’t find an interested team, and could get a second chance, if he impresses the new coach in pre-season.

Five offers for FC Vaslui’s star, Wesley Lopes da Silva

  • Surprising announcement from the Brazilian forward, hours ahead of FC Vaslui’s chance to get a trophy and finally repay Adrian Porumboiu’s financial efforts – the Romanian Cup final against CFR Cluj. Wesley said that his agent has five offers ready for him, three from Romania (definitely, one should be from CFR!) and two from abroad, and is looking to move on at the end of the season. Very poor timing, in my opinion, from the 30 years old, but this is what happens when the agent is there for a player just to move him from one club to another…
  • Francisco Molinero has been released on a free transfer by Dinamo, after the Red Dogs aquired the Brazilian Helder, on loan, from Nancy. It seems that the 25 years old, who played in the past for Atletico Madrid, has some personal problems and asked for a two months long break from the club, but the Bucharest side was happier to get rid of him rather then support him in these difficult times, saving the 360.000 Euros that should have been paid until June 2012, when Molinero’s contract would have expired.
  • Apparently Napoli expressed interest in Lacina Traore, but my guess is that this report only tried to speculate Roberto De Zerbi’s presence on loan at CFR Cluj, a player that the Romanian champions would like to have next season as well, so the press imagined a possible deal involving cash and a player exchange. Rubbish!
  • CFR’s anchorman Gabriel Muresan will be watched tonight from the stands by two members of Dynamo Kyiv‘s staff. The 28 years old has been monitorred by Dynamo for a long time and is yet to find an agreement with CFR to extend his contract. Currently earning 80.000 Euros (a joke, considering he’s been vital for the club, yet he gets almost five times less than Peralta!), Muresan could use the Webster law in the summer and leave the club for a ridiculous sum!

Today’s press

  • Stelios Parpas (24) has finally become a Steaua player. He will stay at the Bucharest side until the summer, when Steaua has the option to buy the player. Parpas was just a rotation/backup defender for AEL, but coach Dusan Uhrin Jr., who had an experience in Romania as well, at FC Timisoara, explained that there was too much competition and that he preferred more experienced players instead. Unlike Parpas, the other Steaua target from Cyprus, Gora Tall (25), will not switch sides right now, but there’s an open door for another discussion in the summer.
  • CFR Cluj is trying to finalize Roberto De Zerbi‘s (30) arrival from Napoli. The attacking midfielder could be the first Italian to have ever played in Liga I, being demanded by CFR’s coach, Andrea Mandorlini. One big problem is De Zerbi’s wage, as he currently earns around 700.000 EUR, while the top salary at the Romanian club is somewhere in the region of 350.000 EUR.
  • Steaua decided not to retain American midfielder Josh Tudela (25). The player had been trying to impress the coaching staff during the training camp from Antalya, Turkey, and, although he featured in four friendly matches, he failed to convince that he can help the club.

Yssouf Kone is up for grabs

This was a hit back in 2008, when CFR managed to snap the striker from Rosenborg and Kone, in spite of a rather mediocre scoring record in Liga I, gained respect for some of his performances and is still considered among the best foreign footballers that ever played in Romania.

Although involved in the African Cup of Nations with Burkina Faso (10 minutes played against Cote D’Ivoire so far), Kone is very present in Romania as well, being the surprising target of a series of attacks from CFR’s usually quiet and discrete owner, Arpad Paszkany. For the past few days, the guy repeatedly accused Kone of complacency and, in case that was too subtle, spoke about his wish of an imminent departure of the centre-forward.

This might seem strange (as CFR wouldn’t say no to selling Lacina Traore and yet is very interested in winning another title), but it’s just a direct method of attracting attention for a player who currently probably lacks offers. And the player definitely could have done more in the first half of season and is probably the highest earner at the club, while almost any decent offer that should come in could satisfy CFR, who paid only 600.000 EUR to Rosenborg.

Looking over his scoring record in the league, you can agree with Paszkany: 9 goals in 28 appearances in the first season, followed by 4 goals in 8 games this season, isn’t enough, given the current level of the Romanian first division. And CFR can definitely find a player who can provide better numbers and won’t ask for a similar wage to Kone’s, while still making a profit out of this deal, by offloading the guy even for just 1 million EUR, a sum which several clubs could easily spend during this January window for an established striker…
