Transfer analysis: FC Vaslui

Adrian Porumboiu wanted to make this Vaslui’s year and went on a spending spree that should have added more quality to an already solid roster, offered to the former Real Madrid coach, Ramon Lopez Caro. A few of the signings were requested by the Spaniard and what followed went on to prove that it’s not the wisest thing to do, with Lopez Caro getting the sack after a poor start and a huge scandal. Rodolfo Bodipo was packed and sent back home immediately, David Rivas never featured again and David Campano doesn’t feel too comfortable either…

Best transfer

Name: Yero Bello
Position: Striker
Age: 23
Games/goals this season: 12/3

His scoring record might not be impressive at a first glance, but he only started eight games, getting a chance to prove himself only in the second half of the matches played this year, and two of his goals were decisive, adding six important points to a team that finished in style a season that didn’t look good, three months ago. Another summer signing, the Brazilian Adailton, has a better record, but Bello must also be considered a long term investment, one that could deliver on the pitch now and with a profitable next transfer, in the future. He’s very strong, determined, a handful for any defense, and has adjusted to a tough environment, reacting well in the first couple of months, when the competition for a place in the team wasn’t that fair.

Worst signing

Name: Rodolfo Bodipo
Position: Striker
Age: 33
Games/goals this season: 3/0

With the 19 years old wing man Richard Annang and the 21 years old goalie Vyantas Cerniauskas looking terrible in their few appearances for the club, the “winner” should be the former Deportivo La Coruna front man. He had the experience and the credentials to be the striker that gives a big hand in turning FC Vaslui into a winning squad. Overweight and distracted even when the future of the man who brought him to Romania was in jeopardy, he left Liga I after only three games, proving one of the biggest flops of the summer mercato. He moved to Elche, in Segunda Division, which is quite far from a title contender, and he won’t be regretted: he failed to scored even there, although he collected nine appearances…

Winter mercato

FC Vaslui made the right choice to release Lucian Burdujan, but this decision looks a bit strange, considering that the former Rapid forward was looking an important player for the current coach, who started with him in 7 consecutive matches… Anyway, the club needs to use this long break to either get back to full fitness important defenders like Gladstone or Farkas or strengthen this area of the team. The biggest problem, though, is their star player’s desire to move away, as, losing Wesley, especially to another title contender, would be devastating. The Brazilian is simply one of the best foreign players who featured in Liga I and this time he might not change his mind and stay until the summer…
