Today’s press
- Kasali Yinka Casal (22) needs to impress Andrea Mandorlini in these next few days, if he wants to become a CFR Cluj player. Although he has already signed a contract, it wasn’t registered yet, and the Nigerian’s performances in the first training camp have been rather poor so far. The same goes for centre-back Patrick Kanyuka, who apparently has even less chances than the left back, according to club president Iuliu Muresan.
- Rapid Bucharest announces the imminent return of Ilie Iordache (24) to Romania. The forward belongs to AEK Athens, who took him on an almost free transfer (there was a huge scandal at the time that involved Pandurii Targu Jiu and Dinamo), but rarely used him (only three matches this season, all as a substitute). The player is expected to join Rapid for the second training camp, in Turkey, and should replace Brazilian left winger Carlos César dos Santos Cesinha (29), who’s in the last six months of the current contract and also rarely featured in the first half of season.
- Rapid’s attacking left back Vladimir Bozovic (28) was yet again the star of an unprofessional behavior episode, which took place in the club’s training camp. The Montenegro defender took along Slovenian midfielder Darijan Matic (26) and both had a couple of beers in a bar next to the stadium they both had left at half time, after being replaced by the coach.
Done deals
- CFR Cluj presented today threee new faces: former Steaua and Catania attacking midfielder Nicolae Dica (29), Cristian Bud (24), transferred a few months ago from Gaz Metan Medias, where the striker had scored 11 times in 32 matches, and the left back Kasali Yinka Casal (22), a surprising aquisition, from Swindon Town.
- Gaz Metan Medias found a replacement for Bud’s departure and signed a striker raised in Steaua’s youth ranks: Alin Litu. He’s 23 years old, has a rather poor scoring record in the league (4 goals in 60 matches!), where he played until now for Steaua, Pandurii Targu Jiu and Gloria Buzau.
- FC Timisoara allowed talented full back Iasmin Latovlevici to go on loan to Gloria Bistrita until the end of the current campaign, in order to keep playing regularly. The left back has 33 matches in the first division, but played only twice this season and, with the costly aquisition of Laszlo Sepsi, there would have been no room for him in the first team.
Two African defenders on trial at CFR
CFR Cluj offered two surprises at the beginning of the week: the Nigerian Kasali Yinka Casal (22), a left back noticed by CFR’s president Iuliu Muresan at Swindon Town, and Patrick Kanyuka (22), born in Congo, but with an EU passport and spells in England at QPR, Swindon Town and Northampton Town.
Although both are on trial, they have been monitorred in the past and already have some credentials as well as chances to sign a deal with CFR, a club that could use some cover both at left back and in central defense.
Today’s press
- Ronny Levy was officially presented today as the new coach of Unirea Urziceni. He signed a contract until June 2011 and has dismissed all the transfer rumors, stating that he’ll use this next period to figure out the team’s weak points. Unirea lost two important players, Tiberiu Balan and Dacian Varga, but seems to keep the excellent Argentinian Pablo Brandan, as the interest from VFB Stuttgart resulted in a “ridiculous” bid, according to the club’s manager Mihai Stoica.
- Steaua’s owner announced that Bulgarian centre forward Krum Bibishkov has been already released, but Gigi Becali seems to have some problems in getting rid of Rafal Grzelak. The Polish midfielder earns 13.000 EUR / month and is under contract until June 2010.
- Steaua is interesting in buying Rui Sandro Carvalho Duarte (29) from FC Brasov. Probably the best player on this position in Romania, the Portuguese right back was bought in 2008 from Estrela Amadora and FC Brasov thinks that he’s worth more than the half of million euro offered by Steaua.
- CFR Cluj announced that a second transfer will be completed tomorrow, when Kasali Yinka Casal (22) is expected to sign a long term deal. The Nigerian comes from Swindon Town and plays at left back.
